In 2001, Tracey Fontenot and Kacey Wernli were practicing pediatric physical therapists who saw a need. The children with special needs that they served needed more exercise. They needed motivation. They needed camaraderie. They needed the joy that comes from being part of a team. Together, Kacey and Tracey founded Kinetic Kids with just one t-ball team of 12 children. Then word got out, and the requests followed. This year, they will offer 234 sports and recreation programs to more than 2,800 children with special needs.

PROGRAMS:

1

Parent & Me

For children ages 18 months to 5 years with special needs who are unable to participate in mainstream sports and recreational programs due to a limitation related to their diagnosis. Each participant is partnered with a parent or guardian and the programs focus on nurturing the parent/child relationship while encouraging activity, interaction and fun among participants.
2

Champions Division

Designed for children ages 5-18 years with special needs. Kinetic Kids strives to provide one-on-one volunteers for Champions as the children in this division often need more assistance to be successful. Additionally, coaches in the Champions division will take sensory breaks between structured tasks as needed by each class.
3

All Stars Division

For children with a physical disability OR those with developmental disabilities who follow directions in a group setting. Assistance is provided to ensure each participant's success.
4

SA Premier Division

Tryouts or identification by program directors are required for participation in the Premier division which is appropriate for athletes with intellectual or physical disabilities with both the skill and desire to compete at a higher level. Athletes must be successful in the Allstars division and be able to compete without volunteer assistance and meet any program-specific criteria. Athletes may participate in finales within Kinetic Kids, local meets or state competitions.
5

SA Xtreme

Tryouts or identification by program directors are required for our most competitive division. Xtreme athletes only have physical disabilities. They have both the skill and desire to compete at a higher level without volunteer assistance and are committed to a more intense training schedule to achieve their goals at local, regional, state and national competitions. Typically these programs are scheduled and billed monthly, however, at this level of competition, Kinetic Kids covers the costs of all competitions.
