Flashback Friday: Magdalena Ministries, Inc.

Magdalena House is a neighborhood of transitional homes in San Antonio that serves mothers and children who have fled dangerous and abusive lives by providing transformation through education, nurturing community, and programming. Magdalena House provides a transitional home, help, and hope for the future.

With their supportive services, mothers and children at Magdalena House find safety and the tools to thrive, particularly in school. By using a dual-generation approach, they meet the basic needs of families while offering wraparound support, therapeutic services, and family-building activities. This empowering environment enables both mothers and children to heal, grow, and flourish together.

The Shelter and Dual-Generation Programming is funded by the Najim Charitable Foundation and helps children envision a bright future, including pursuing higher education like their mothers.

The “Kids Connection Too” program focuses on socio-emotional learning, allowing children to express themselves and feel affirmed. Remarkably, 83% of the children involved showed improved post-test scores in socio-emotional learning.

Throughout the year, family activities such as outdoor movie nights, bike parades, gardening with visiting chickens, and waterslide fun allow the children to experience the joys of childhood and develop a sense of belonging. As one 5-year-old sweetly shared, “Home is where you belong, right?” At Magdalena House, children feel safe, loved, and truly at home.
