Mission Statement:

To improve the physical, mental, and social health of at-risk youth in the Greater San Antonio area.

Slam Dunk for Life (SDFL) serves at-risk students from over 40 middle schools and ten districts in San Antonio and its surrounding areas. Participating school districts included: Edgewood ISD, Harlandale ISD, Ft. Sam Houston ISD, Judson ISD, North East ISD, Northside ISD, San Antonio ISD, Somerset ISD. Schertz/Cibolo/Universal City ISD, and Southside ISD.

Using basketball as a means to reach life lessons continues to be the ultimate focus of the program. Campers are chosen by school personnel on the basis of some untapped potential in areas such as academic performance, attendance, behavior, or self-esteem.  During the week of camp, students will be taught the importance of education, preparation, dedication, integrity, and perseverance, and guest speakers will reinforce these concepts through discussion and personal testimony.

The vision for the future is to establish a model youth development initiative consisting of year-round programs that provide character-building activities and promote life values. As a result, SDFL hopes to increase the number of at-risk students obtaining higher education, thus improving their overall lifetime earnings.

Slam Dunk for Life Leadership Camp objectives include: 1) Increasing the number of days students are in attendance the following academic year, 2) decreasing the number of office referrals students receive the following academic year, and 3) improving student perception of the importance of education in maintaining a good quality of life.

The current accomplishments of Slam Dunk for Life's Leadership Camps are numerous. Since 2002, the program has grown from two to ten participating school districts, including students from six to over 40 middle schools in the San Antonio area. In 2002, 250 students attended four SDFL camps.  The total number of students served over the years is 10,000. They now hold 12 camps across the city annually with over 1,500 students in attendance.

The students and neighborhood communities benefit from the "domino effect" when students stay in school, participate in positive activities, and become productive citizens.

Your support makes it possible for Slam Dunk for Life to provide the sports/leadership camps at no cost to hundreds of children annually.  It will put a smile on the child's face and yours.  Click To Make a Donation online.
